SELFEEL

Anti-bacterial and Anti-fungal Effects

The oxidation property of SELFEEL is effective against bacteria and fungi, it kills bacteria and strongly inhibits the growing of fungi.

Anti-bacterial and Anti-fungal Effects

The anti-bacterial effect of SELFEEL was assayed by the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) L-1902, 2002 method entitled "Testing for antibacterial activity and efficacy on textile products" at Japan Spinners Inspecting Foundation. Outline of the assay method is as follows.

Each sample cloth (0.4 gram: approx. 18 mm square) of the test cotton cloth dipped with SELFEEL (hereafter called "test cloth") and non-treated standard cotton cloth (hereafter called "control cloth") was put into a vial, and the vial was sterilized by autoclave, dried in a clean bench and stopped closely with sterilized cap. To the vial enclosed test cloth or control cloth, a certain number of living cells of Escherichia coli or Staphylococcus aureus was inoculated and the vial was closely stopped. After incubation at 37±1℃ for 18±1 hours, the defined washing solution was added into the vial and the bacteria were extracted into the washing solution. The extracted solution was diluted and mixed with agar medium and cultivated at 37±1℃ for 24~48 hours to count the living cells. Inoculated cell number of E.coli was 17,000 and the number of S.aureus was 15,000. Results after 18 hr-incubation were shown on the below table.

As shown in the table, E.coli and S.aureus on the SELFEEL-dipped cloth were almost completely killed.

●Anti-bacterial effect against Escherichia coli NBRC 3301

Living cell number after incubation
Control cloth34,000,000
SELFEEL-dipped cloth less than 20

●Anti-bacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538P

Living cell number after incubation
Control cloth7,600,000
SELFEEL-dipped cloth less than 20

Anti-fungal Effect

The anti-fungus effect of SELFEEL was assayed by the below method corresponding to the JIS L-1902, 2002 method entitled "Testing for antibacterial activity and efficacy on textile products" at Japan Spinners Inspecting Foundation.

To the vial enclosed test cloth or control cloth, a certain number of living spores of Aspergillus niger (66,000 spores) was inoculated and the vial was closely stopped. After incubation at 27±1℃ for 18±1 hours, the defined washing solution was added into the vial and A.niger was extracted into the washing solution. The extracted solution was diluted and mixed with culture medium and cultivated at 27±1℃ for 2-3 days to count the living cells.

As shown in the table, the growing of A.niger coli on the SELFEEL-dipped cloth was strongly inhibited.

●Anti-fungal effect against Asperfillus niger ATCC 6275

Living cell number after incubation
Control cloth27,000
SELFEEL-dipped cloth5,200
